K2 Tennessee Update
It was like we were back in Myrtle Beach. Tons of stuff to do up and down the strip where our hotels were located. Great food and fun activities filled the void before and after all the matches of our 14s, 17s, and 18s.
14s again started their tournament strong, winning their first 2 matches and guaranteeing a spot in the GOLD bracket finishing with a 2-1 record in pool play. 8am came early and they were up for the challenge, winning their first and second match of elimination day putting them into the semis! Came up against an undefeated team that went on to win the tournament and Fusion 14 walked away with a 4-2 record and a tie for 3rd place out of 28 teams!
17s drew the #1 seed in their bracket and once again went undefeated in their first round of bracket play and getting the #2 seed in the GOLD bracket. Easy win Sunday morning put them up against the largest team in the tourney where their quest for more gold would end. They would finish with a 3-2 record and tie for 3rd out of 22 teams only losing to the 2 teams that eventually played in the final.
18s drew the #2 seed in their bracket and started their Saturday losing their first match 11-15 in a third set. Made quick work of their second match to set up a showdown for the other 1-1 team in our pool for a shot to go to Gold. Traded the first 2 sets and played some of our best ball only to come up 2 points shy of Gold. Placed in SILVER where they knew they would prevail, split our first 2 sets in our first match only for us to come roaring out in front in the 3rd and never looked back. A commanding 15-7 win put us in the final where our opponent was no match. Finishing with a 3-2 record and placing 1st in Silver and 11th out of 21 overall, we were able to beat every team we played at least 1 set and losing our deciding sets by a combined 6 points. It’s especially gratifying to me to watch this group of resilient young ladies grow. Such poise and composure is a testament to the parenting of these girls coupled with the culture we are promoting here at Fusion. This Village is our village, and it is awesome! Coach Frank
