Winter Bump Recap

Myrtle Beach entertained 7 of our 8 teams this year. Hope everyone had plenty of time to enjoy themselves off the courts as much as they did on them. Lots of hardware was taken home as 3 of our teams were able to medal with 1 first and 2 second place finishes in their respective brackets.

13 Silver had a terrific tourney as they put together a 5 match win streak including winning their pool Sunday and making it to their bracket final finishing 2nd with a 6-3 match record.

14 Navy started a bit slow but turned things around as they won their pool Sunday before coming up short Monday as they finished 3rd in their bracket.

15 Red had a very competitive tournament all weekend. Coming up just short on day 1 to capture their pool, they were placed in a top pool for Sunday where they made a terrific showing for themselves but were unfortunately 0-3 and were placed down in the Copper bracket. Having run the tables Monday in bracket play easily, and finishing 1st, they knew they belonged in a higher bracket. 15s also had to play without one of their setters throughout Sunday and Monday and the team responded very well.

16 Silver were delivered a blow early as one player came down with the flu. This forced many adjustments with players in different positions. With an overall 2-5 record and 3 of their losses coming in 3 sets they were able to learn some things about themselves and the game that should prove beneficial to them in the long run.

17 Red had a terrific first 2 days as they were able to run the tables in both pools to put them into the Gold bracket. Played a very big team in the qrtr final where they proved why ball control is so important as they took the match 2-0. Semi final action came and our ball control started to fade as they lost 1-2 to eventual tourney champs and finishing with an impressive 7-1 match record and only 2 sets lost.

18Silver was another injury plagued team that overcame adversity. Winning 2 of 3 matches Saturday that lead them to finishing 3rd in the Silver bracket
on Monday after losing a 6 rotation player. Overall 3-5 record for the weekend.

18 Red were the big achievers of SC. An undefeated Saturday pushed them to a Sunday of tests where they were able to pull out 2nd to advance to Gold. Doing it the hard way, they were able to make it to the finals with 2 hard fought matches. The finals proved too much but 18Red captured 2nd against an undefeated team. With only 3 returners from last year it says a lot about what these newcomers have done in the gym the past couple months.

Thanks to all who made the trip enjoyable. I was able to see lots of progress on the court as well as off as many of our teams were found visiting with or cheering for our other teams.
